CNN

On the inside, there is a futuristic 'floating' dashboard that highlights Kia's uniquely innovative design approach. The welcome system turns on the exterior puddle and interior lights to 'greet' the driver, while the interior mood lighting strip, which runs along the dashboard to the door trim, creates a warm atmosphere within the vehicle.
Engine options are expected to include a 175 hp 2.4-liter Theta four-cylinder and a 273 hp 3.5-liter Lambda V6. While front-wheel drive is standard, an all-wheel drive system will likely be available.
Cadenza is positioned above the existing Magentis model in Kia's global line-up but currently there are no plans to bring to vehicle to the UK .
Kia Motors ( UK ) Limited Managing Director Michael Cole commented: “Despite its striking appearance and high-tech engineering I do not believe this is the right time to try and extend our range into a sector of the market that is dominated by German brands. But Cadenza shows clearly how Kia's design-led philosophy under Peter Schreyer is producing startling new products and it is clear from this car that our future new model programme – which starts next year with Venga and the all-new Sorento – is going to continue the dramatic development of our brand in the UK .”

F3R Toyota Roominess Hybrid Concept Car

F3R Toyota Roominess Hybrid Concept Car

Starting with a simple, blue-sky request for a three-row concept vehicle, Ian Cartabiano, the Project Chief Designer for the vehicle's exterior, and Alan Schneider, Project Chief Designer for the F3R's interior, began readying sketches depicting an adaptable performance vehicle oriented toward a young family.
The decision to explore the possibilities of three-row seating made sense.
Cartabiano and Schneider began the project by listing positive attributes of the minivan. These included its space efficiency, versatility, roominess, handling, fuel efficiency and ride quality.
To create that extension, the design team came up with three very modern looking sets of seats. Each is unique, composed of modern, metal-edged bottoms and asymmetrical backs whose symmetry is completed by semi-integrated headrests. They can provide roomy, comfortable seating for eight adult passengers.
Up front, the driver's seat reclines and swivels, and the passenger seat reclines to form a comfortable chaise. In the middle, the right and center sections of the 40/20/40-percent second-row seats fold into the floor and the left-hand seat reclines fully to form, with the rearmost or third row, an avant-garde sofa built around the sort of conversation area you might find in an upscale home.
This is surrounded by a casual, wrap-around backrest formed by the continuous, flowing curve of the instrument panel, doors and rear seatback panels. These are accented by fiber-optic lighting panels in the seat sides, and in the F3R's right-center grand entry, that can be lit to provide illumination during lounge chat sessions.
But there's more to do here than just chat. That's because Schneider equipped the F3R with two track-mounted flat-panel video screens. These allow the vehicle's occupants to enjoy movies or games whenever they want, and to do so in complete comfort, with control supplied by an audio/video/lighting remote unit that docks in the F3R's dash.
The lounge mode would be useful any time the vehicle is not moving, Schneider said, adding, "It would be ideal when you take the kids to games or sporting events, or when you're just hanging out with friends. It's a living room away from home."

F3R Toyota Roominess Hybrid Concept Car

But if the F3R is a living room away from home, it also offers a very comfortable and very useable motor-vehicle interior. Seating, in transport mode, is stadium-style, with each row just a little higher than the row in front of it to provide optimal passenger comfort and visibility.
And it provides convenient three-door access on both sides to reflect adult-size space in all three rows.
To enhance the F3R's utility, its center-row seats stow individually, and the center seat in the middle row can be configured as a "front-and-center"child seat.
Schneider took special care to design a unique three-tier instrument panel that is, like the interior itself, dual-mode.
But that's not all. On the far right-hand side of this lower panel is the detachable remote-control module that can be taken into the F3R's lounge to control the audio and video systems and the lounge lighting.
Schneider's design emphasizes environmentally sensitive materials, in keeping with the theme of environmental sensitivity suggested by the Hybrid Synergy Drive badging on the F3R. These materials include floor panels made from Ecoresin, a specially formulated resin that can be recycled; and a skin-friendly simulated leather seating material called Mythos that, unlike most plastics, does not produce the harmful chemical dioxin when it is burned.
Cartabiano's starting point for the F3R's exterior shape, meanwhile, featured a van that conveyed maximum volume, with a tall, wedged body shape that incorporated wide, dynamic shoulders, with its sporty 22-inch wheels and wide performance tires planted at the extreme boundaries of all four corners.
What the team wound up with just might be one of the more unique and recognizable front-end treatments to be seen in a while. To get there, Cartabiano started with a front-three-quarter view so he could concentrate on a nose with sculpted, high-mounted headlamps, which help hide the front fascia's corners, and on its wedge profile.
With the basic shape of the F3R set in his mind, and with a front-end concept sketched, Cartabiano began thinking of the rest of the F3R's surfaces, using what he describes as "wet and dry surface taste."
For the F3R's flanks, he chose a highly sculpted, flowing - or wet - shape, with fender flares smoothly integrated into the body. And for the nose and rear he went the opposite direction, choosing very clean lines and surfaces that are very simple - or, in designer-speak, dry.
Then he applied some three-dimensional shaping to the beltline, or shoulder, to get the cabin inset, so that the lower body looks wider than the greenhouse, or upper cabin.
And he came up with a rocker-panel section that incorporates what he calls a comet light-catch.
The result is that the F3R looks like a stylish performance vehicle. But the feeling inside is very airy and light.
Part of that feeling is because the D pillar is angled rearward to create a wraparound rear glass that provides a widescreen view of the world outside when the vehicle is reversing.

F3R Toyota Roominess Hybrid Concept Car

And though the F3R seems to have a high beltline, it isn't as high as it looks. That's the result of what the vehicle's designers call proportion tuning. Said Cartabiano, "The cabin kind of looks chopped, but the beltline is not much higher than that of the current Sienna. This look is a trick done by lowering bottom of the car, making the body look a little thicker."
The result, of course, is a concept vehicle filled not only with intelligent drama, but with exactly the fresh take on three rows of seating, and on the usable space that vans so effectively provide, that Toyota executives were looking for. They wanted anything but a minivan. What they got was a sporty new vehicle that defies an easy label. With a dramatic, iconic shape that is as distinctive as that of the Toyota Prius and an interior that is more adaptable and more family friendly than anything previously seen, it's reasonable to suspect that the automotive world could soon be seeing styling elements from the F3R on future Toyota production vehicles.

beON Hybrid Concept Car Design

The Istituto Europeo di Design of Turin, one of the top car design training institutions in the world, is giving a preview of “beON”, the real size concept car, designed by the students of the 4th RSP Master in Transportation Design, as well as offering this years audiences the opportunity to get another look at “M eleven B”, “Manta” and “MP 11”, the three models that were awarded prizes by McLaren Automotive as part of the thesis project developed by students in the 3-year post-high school Transportation Design course 2005-6.
For the fourth consecutive year the IED Turin has confirmed its record of being the only School in the world to take part in the Geneva International Motor Show, the highest point of the Institute’s designing and creative process.
The scale model (3860 mm long, 2100 mm wide, 1600 mm high, wheel base 2750 mm) stems from the decision to concentrate the research efforts of the Master course student on the search for a solution that might marry style with technology, hybrid propulsion with excitement. The result is a state of the art ecological vehicle with the potential to turn the dream of an unpolluted world into reality, without sacrificing the thrill of driving.
Taking as its starting point the problems connected to the nature of hybrid vehicles and their 'somewhat unappealing image', the project set itself the challenge of creating a model that was not just “useful” but also aesthetically sophisticated, with startling lines and heightened potential, that might provide these kinds of technologies with greater visibility and appeal.
The 19 students, led by the master coordinators Carsten Astheimer, Head of Design at Brunswick Boat Group and Luca Borgogno, a Pininfarina Designer, have come up with a concept car that clearly voices the ideas of freedom and movement, developed around a structure conceived to represent excellence in terms of functionality and originality. The vehicle, a two seater off-road sports car, has been designed to travel over deserts, beaches and wild terrains, as well as negotiating the urban jungles, offering its passengers the best interior comfort together with the opportunity of enjoying the view outside the cockpit; it’s ideally suited for travel in extreme conditions, allowing nature to be experienced with the maximum freedom and in the most adventurous way.
The flowing exterior, embracing and protective like soft skin, changes shape and colour, creating empty spaces that emphasize the lightness and thorough enjoyment to be gained from the car. The see through sun-roof, made of glass and plexiglass, adds to the feeling of being completely immersed in the surrounding environment. For the mechanics, the choice has fallen on a hybrid thermal-electric engine connected to a very special hydraulic transmission system placed within each wheel hub. This ingenious combination ensures excellent off-road performance and seeing as it can also act as a break, it means that the traditional disk and calliper breaking system can be completely eliminated.
The model is the result of a complex selection process that included a number of different stages: out of the initial eighteen individual proposals, nine were then chosen to be produced in 1:4 scale models. The students worked on these as pairs or teams of three. A technical panel headed by the engineer Lorenzo Ramaciotti and made up of Dott. Giuliano Molineri, Frimark President, the engineer Costanzo Berta, Aerodynamics, aero-acustics and bodywork experimentation expert, Dott. Arrigo Gallizio, Segno Milano President, and the Master coordinators, was subsequently responsible for supervising the final selection that led to the choice of the final model, and also made suggestions as to possible ways in which the car could be further developed.
“beON” is a project devised by: Jaywant Bharat Bhalla (India), Abhijeet Bhoge (India), Rishabh Chaturvedi (India), Anindya Dutta Roy (India), Pablo José Gaido (Argentine), Jesús González Torres (Mexico), Andrey Gusev (Russia), Matteo Krzanowski (Italy), Nemanja Lalicic (Serbia), Vincenzo Langella (Italy), Aldo Meli (Italy), Giorgio Olori (Italy), Emre Ozbilgin (Turkey), Jim Patané (Canada), Cagri Ahmet Selcuklu (Turkey), Gopal Tamaskar (India), Yogesh Yadav (India) and Sinan Yogunali (Turkey).
The following took part in the project as tutors: Alessio Minchella and Dario Olivero, ex IED students.
The model was created in collaboration with: Automotive Lighting, Model Resine, OZ Racing, Pirelli, Weiss S.p.A. (KONI shock absorbers).
The model was built out of Cecomp.

CS Concept BMW Concept Car

BMW Concept CS Sport Car

Germany’s leading manufacturer of premium vehicles is presenting the vision of a unique four-door car which combines the exclusivity of a luxury Gran Turismo with the excitement of a high-performance sports car. The BMW Concept CS is designed to concentrate on powerful, expressive design, materials of the highest quality, and quality of finish in perfection, this unique new model offers a completely new understanding of premium quality.
Through its design BMW hopes the Concept CS underlines the 'skill and competence' of the BMW brand in developing sporting luxury for more than two occupants.
The low-slung, dynamically stretched silhouette, the long engine compartment lid and stylish lines and contours accentuating rear-wheel drive technology, all set clear standards for dynamics in a new style of premium vehicles.
While the conventional saloon focuses primarily on driving comfort, the BMW Concept CS is intended to send out a clear message of active, dynamic motoring. A message which reaches all the car’s occupants, with the generous feeling of space in this four-door being supplemented by a sporting and low seating position enjoyed not only by the driver and front passenger, but also by the passengers at the rear on their own single seats.
The new driving experience offered by the BMW Concept CS is reflected by all the car’s interior features, the design of the interior and the various technical innovations interacting with one another. The design and finish of both the surfaces and controls is further accentuated by the use of 'top-quality materials' with 'unnecessary opulence' replaced by highly focused luxury.
Measuring 5.10 metres or 200.8 inches in length, the BMW Concept CS is dominated by dynamically flowing lines. From the BMW kidney grille standing out, almost mutating, very strongly at the front, the eyes are drawn back along the low-slung engine compartment lid, subsequently meandering along the side-line and roof-line all the way to the deliberately short rear-end with its clear-cut air flow spoiler.

BMW Concept CS Sport Car

The sporting, low-slung silhouette of the car is further accentuated by body height of just 1.36 metres or 53.5 inches. A further important feature is the gentle taper of the roof-line at the rear serving again to smoothly stretch the proportions of the entire car. The re-interpreted contour line, as seen from the side, serves to emphasise the technical concept of rear-wheel drive so crucial to dynamic performance on the road. Subdividing the silhouette of the car into various sections, the contour line stretches from the beginning of the A-pillar in a gentle, rising movement all the way up above the front door, gradually petering out beneath the rear side window. Then the contour line starts again in the lower section of the rear door, first running parallel to the wheel cut-out in a powerful arch. From there the rear contour line is continued as a straight line also rising slightly up to the rear end of the car.
The roof-line tapers out gently to the rear. The striking contour of the C-pillar, in turn, provides an additional visual highlight, the transition of the C-pillar into the rear section of the car tapering out at a lower angle than the steeper rear window rising up from its base point. At the bottom, the C-pillar offers a new, enhanced interpretation of the reverse line sweeping to the front known by tradition as the "Hofmeister kick". And finally, a gentle, light-edge stands out above the side window precisely where the C-pillar merges into the roof-line.
The front-end design of the BMW Concept CS is a particularly striking example of the 'consistent enhancement' of BMW’s design language. Indeed, the kidney grille is not only the central, but also the dominating element in the design of the entire front end. Through its dimensions, as well as its position slightly inclined to the front, the kidney grille is intended to establish a clear link to classic BMW sports cars. All further elements at the front end of the car are angled in the direction of travel and designed as a genuine sculpture around the kidney grille, with all directly adjacent surfaces being modelled in concave design.
Significant functional features add further meaning to the look of the car, with the BMW kidney grille serving as the primary supply of air to the engine. The two recesses in the front side panels, in turn, help to cool the brakes on the car.

BMW Concept CS Sport Car

Within the dynamic, low-slung headlight units featured in the BMW Concept CS, particularly innovative technology serves to generate a powerful and consistent light beam: Innovative LED reverse-projection lights bundle their light on a reflection area from where the beam is conveyed smoothly, consistently and with utmost precision to the road ahead. This provides a particularly homogenous area of illumination without the slightest dazzling effect, since the oncoming motorist does not look directly at the projectors.
The BMW Concept CS presents the vision of an automobile proudly offering all its qualities to the driver. The enjoyment of driving is intended to be shared among all the occupants: Just like the front-seat passenger, the passengers on the single seats at the rear will also, it is hoped, appreciate the sporting and active driving experience offered by the BMW Concept CS. Precisely this is ensured by the contours of the rear seats with their perfect side support tailored to the contours and design of the front sports seats. And thanks to the single seat concept, elbow freedom on the rear seats is just as good as on the front passenger’s seat.
The centre console flows back smoothly all the way to the rear, serving as a comfortable armrest and at the same time offering additional storage space.

2010 Sadici Fiat 1.6 petrol engine and 2.0 Multijet diesel

2010 Fiat Sadici

Fiat is renewing the Fiat Sedici in style and choice of engines: from now the Fiat Sedici is even more respectful of the environment thanks to two new Euro 5 engines (the 120CV 1.6 16v petrol engine and the 135CV 2.0 16v Multijet diesel), making it the "best in class" SUV for CO2 emissions.
With the new Sedici, the Fiat range acquires greater coherence and modernity, thanks to styling that is more consistent with that of other models. Now, the appearance of the new model incorporates a series of details that immediately refer to the modern crossovers, with a solution that is trend-proof and destined to last a long time. The new bumper, reminiscent of robust "bull bars", adds strength and character to the design, while the metallic trim around the fog lights emphasises a practical elegance that is perfectly at home even in the most prestigious city centres. The most distinctive feature of the new Fiat Sedici is its ability to move effortlessly from chaotic urban traffic to tough outdoor routes over rough and slippery terrain.

2010 Fiat Sadici

Heir to an already successful model (80,000 units sold in all, and around 47,000 in Italy alone, where the Fiat Sedici 4x4 is the best selling off-road vehicle), Fiat's renewed SUV is designed to target customers seeking distinction in the form of a refined automobile with elegant lines. At the same time the new Fiat Sedici is also ideal for drivers wanting a car that is compact, agile and safe in city traffic. The new Fiat Sedici measures 411 centimetres in length, 176 in width, 162 in height (160.5 cm for the 4x2), and 250 cm in wheelbase. The new model offers an improved leisure experience, especially for nature lovers and drivers seeking to satisfy a taste for adventure. This is merit of the car's all-terrain look and its adaptable, on-demand four wheel drive system that lets you switch freely between 4x2 and 4x4 drive, further reducing fuel consumption compared to other off-road vehicles in the same class.
The customer can choose between three versions (Dynamic, Emotion and Experience), two drive systems (4x2 and 4x4), 8 bodywork colours and two new engines, the 120 HP 1.6 16v petrol and the 135 HP 2.0 Multijet diesel with DPF (particulate filter) as standard. Compared to those of the previous model, these two new engines deliver more power while also producing significantly less CO2. They can be combined with five or six-speed gearboxes (and on some markets, like Germany, even a 4-speed automatic, available only on the 1.6 petrol 4x2).

2010 Fiat Sadici

Compared with the previous 120 HP 1.9 Multijet, the new 135 HP 2.0 16v Multijet boasts 20% better CO2 emissions in the 4x4 version (and 17% better in the 4x2). In the case of the 4x2 version, figures for the combined cycle are just 129 g/km of CO2 and 4.9 l/100 km for fuel consumption. (The 4x4 version achieves 143 g/km of CO2 and 5.5 l/100 km). In some countries, Italy being one, the new Fiat Sedici even benefits from state contributions for new vehicles with reduced CO2 emissions. These figures put the Fiat Sedici at the top of its class and confirm Fiat's continuous commitment to combining "fun to drive" with protection of the environment.
On top of a considerable reduction in consumption and emissions, the Fiat Sedici 2.0 Multijet 135 HP boasts performance at the top of its class: top speed is 190 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h only 10.5 seconds (the figures for the 4x4 version are 180 km/h and 11.2 seconds respectively). In addition, the flexibility of the vehicle has been enhanced due to 320 N/m torque at 1500 rpm.
The new 120 HP 1.6 16v petrol engine (delivering 156 Nm of torque) offers about 10% lower CO2 emissions than the previous 107 HP version in both the 4x2 and 4x4 versions. The engine is ideal for city roads and twisting country lanes, thanks to new variable valve gear that helps optimise torque and power at all engine speeds. Equipped with this engine, the Fiat Sedici 4x2 reaches a top speed of 185 km/h, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.7 seconds, and consumes 6.2 l/100 km in the combined cycle (figures for the 4x4 version are 175 km/h, 11.5 seconds, and 6.5 l/100 km).

SASSOU Mazda Concept Car 1.0-liter MZR DISI

SASSOU Mazda Concept Car 1.0-liter MZR DISI

One of the most popular vehicles at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show was the Mazda Sassou concept car, designed to hint at where Mazda might be heading with a future B-car, a small, lightweight, three-door hatchback powered by a turbocharged, three-cylinder, 1.0-liter MZR DISI (Direct Injection Spark Ignition) gasoline engine. Its conception and realization by a group of young Mazda designers from five countries under the leadership of Peter Birtwhistle, Chief Designer at Mazda’s European R&D Centre, is a great example of the cosmopolitan nature of today's design studios and how the range of skills and backgrounds is pooled to bring forward one of the World's fastest growing car companies.

SASSOU Mazda Concept Car 1.0-liter MZR DISI

Combined with evolved Zoom-Zoom design language and a unique interior concept, Mazda SASSOU is a look into the future at where Mazda might be heading with its B-car. It will share the stage with the Mazda MX-Crossport concept, Mazda2 facelift, the high-performance Mazda6 MPS and the recently launched Mazda6 facelift.
The first exterior design sketches were made by Luca Zollino, Mazda Sassou’s lead designer working with both Peter Birtwhistle and Moray Callum, Executive Officer and General Manager of Mazda Motor Corporation’s Design Division. The team also included Masanori Minamisawa, Mazda Assistant Chief Designer now based at Mazda’s European R&D Centre in Oberursel, Germany, whose input was vital throughout the entire design and realization process. The design language depicted in these sketches – specifically, the panel articulation of the silhouette, the Mazda five-point rear end design and the unique glass roof design – was successfully transferred to the final concept car at a later date. At this point in development, however, the work of translating these images to reality had just begun.
The first step in realizing the exterior design was to produce a 2/5th sized model, based on the finalized sketches, that was sculptured by the design team in Oberursel by hand using clay.
Parallel to creating this clay mock-up, the colour and trim team, lead by Maria Greger, had produced an exterior surface in Dynoc film, which could be pasted onto the model and removed without damaging the surface below.

SASSOU Mazda Concept Car 1.0-liter MZR DISI

The model already contains many of the Zoom-Zoom features that help make Sassou immediately recognizable as a Mazda, including the front end which is an evolution of the Mazda RX-8 with a large, sporty-looking five-point grille and bonnet. However, the model also has its unique Sassou fender design, which would later receive the chevron-shaped front lights as an integral part of the concept’s Mazda Alive illumination system. The European design team was now ready to present the model to Moray Callum and the changes he suggested at this point were carried out by hand on only one side of the model.
Mazda SASSOU Mazda's latest show car is a lightweight, urban vehicle for young, first time car buyers that makes everyday city driving fun, highly practical, economical and aiming for clean emissions. A sleek, three-door hatchback, it employs evolved Zoom-Zoom exterior design language with youthful lightness and unique hidden features.
The name "SASSOU" is a Japanese term that means having a positive state of mind, of looking ahead with optimism to the future. And with a lightweight , compact and stylish exterior, Mazda SASSOU certainly embodies this. It is an advanced interpretation of Mazda stylishness that employs the latest in aerodynamic techniques that visually hints at the agility and fun-to-drive attributes so typical of the brand. It mixes these with a unique use of exterior and interior materials and hidden features based on the "Shoji" principle. Shoji screens are thin Japanese doors made of ricepaper that allow you to see the outline of what is behind without seeing the details. The Mazda SASSOU concept has attributes that are hidden within the body and are suddenly revealed by an illumination system that makes the car seem to spring to life in a way that is appealing and surprising.

2012 Infiniti M35 Hybrid the first production of hybrid car

2012 Infiniti M35 Hybrid

Infiniti confirmed today that it will offer its first production hybrid ever in its 20-years of existence with the 2012 Infiniti M35 Hybrid. The model will join the Infiniti M lineup in spring 2011.
Infiniti said that its hybrid system consists of a single electric-motor/twin-clutch arrangement, mated to a naturally aspirated 3.5L V6. The first-clutch is installed between the V6 engine and the electric motor, which Infiniti says allows for a more responsive drive. Infiniti said that the M35 Hybrid, which will carry a lithium-ion battery pack, has the ability to run solely on electric-power under certain driving conditions.

2012 Infiniti M35 Hybrid

Additional technical details will be announced closer to launch. The 328-hp 2011 Infiniti M37 and the 400-hp 2011 Infiniti M56 will go on sale in the U.S. in spring 2010.

Press Release:
Infiniti Confirms M35 Hybrid Production
Infiniti today confirmed that its first production hybrid vehicle will be part of the recently announced line of 2011 Infiniti M luxury performance sedans, which are scheduled to go on sale in spring 2010 at Infiniti dealers nationwide. The Infiniti M35 hybrid is expected to arrive about 12 months later as a 2012 model. It is Infiniti’s first hybrid in its 20-year existence, as well as the cleanest and most economical car in Infiniti’s history.
Realizing the high performance/low emissions promise of the recent Infiniti Essence concept car, the M35 Hybrid has been designed and engineered to add to, not take away from, the driving experience, a key part of any Infiniti’s appeal. The M35 Hybrid is based on the all-new M, which itself picks up styling cues from Essence, the show-stopper that made its debut at the Geneva Auto Show early in 2009.
The M35 Hybrid maintains a high performance luxury sedan profile, overlaying it with the fuel economy and CO2 emissions of a smaller car, while delivering driving flair to please any enthusiast – complete with charismatic V6 and rear-wheel drive handling.
Infiniti’s hybrid system, developed solely within Infiniti’s parent group, is a single electric motor/twin clutch arrangement. Innovatively, the first clutch is installed between the naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 and the electric motor. The result of this configuration, where all components act on a single prop shaft to the rear differential, is a consistent driving feel under all conditions with linear performance and the “direct responses” that the engineers sought.
The electric motor acts as both propulsion unit, boosting the V6 in “power assist” mode when maximum acceleration is required, and also as a generator. Along with charging the battery in the normal way, the motor recovers energy otherwise lost during deceleration and braking.
The M Hybrid can also run solely on its electric motor in certain driving conditions, furthering fuel efficiency and optimizing energy usage across the widest possible range of driving conditions. Details of driving range, performance and transmission will be released later.
As expected of Infiniti, several new technologies are introduced in the new M35 Hybrid, including a “laminated” lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery pack that is the same size as conventional batteries but offers twice the power. Lamination enhances the pack’s cooling performance, while temperature stability is further improved by the use of manganese positive electrodes. An end result of this is exceptional battery reliability.
The M35 Hybrid joins conventional engine-equipped 2011 M versions – including a new high-performance diesel V6 for Western Europe – as the first Ms to be sold across all of Infiniti’s world markets, currently 33 countries. All of the new-generation Infiniti M models are on target to beat their predecessors on fuel consumption and emissions – despite across-the-board performance improvements – thanks to a range of efficiency-enhancing measures.

Press Release
AC to launch new AC MkVI in Monaco
The UK’s oldest car marque has announced that it is building its new AC MkVI in Germany
The AC MkVI will be launched at the Top Marques car show in Monaco on April 16. The AC MkVI, a faithful recreation of the ultimate sports car icon – the AC Cobra, is now being produced in Germany for sale in Europe. AC has entered into a long term strategic alliance with Gullwing GmbH in Heyda, Germany. The AC MkVI is being produced in a modern facility and AC is extremely proud of the quality of the finished product which is due to the skills of the craftsmen at the Heyda facility.
AC’s Chairman Alan Lubinsky summarised the main specification of the new AC MkVI:
  • “The car has fully triangulated, jig welded roundtube spaceframe chassis, with racecar derived suspension, suitably adapted to be road compliant.
  • 4-pot Porsche brake calipers with vented discs, 332 mm front-298 mm rear.
  • Differential with variable powerlock.
  • Corvette V-8 engine, 6.2 Litre, 437 bhp for the GT and 647 bhp for GTS version, both compliant to current emission laws.
  • Handmade aluminium-hybrid bodies, handmade to last forever, with increased, air conditioned cabin size for taller drivers.
  • Finest German carpets and leather hides, craftsman made to create a luxurious and comfortable interior”.
“AC is one of the most admired and respected marques in the world,” stated Juergen Mohr, CEO of Gullwing GmbH. “Their sports cars ignited a passion that still burns inside enthusiasts today. For over a century, the company has built cars with superb engineering, old world craftsmanship and classic designs. We feel extremely honoured that we can now be part of the future of the brand.” Alan Lubinsky added:
“There are two major new features on the AC MkVI. We are especially excited about the new aluminium-hybrid body construction on the AC MkVI. This provides the AC MkVI with a traditional aluminium finish on the bodyshell, together with a strong composite structure. In addition to this, the AC MkVI will have as standard equipment a light weight gullwing hardtop, with coupled to the standard air conditioning, will provide drivers with total all weather motoring.
The AC MkVI is an open-top sports car based on the design of the Le Mans winning AC Cobra with many of the original car’s characteristics while incorporating modern technology. The cars are not imitations – they are new generation of AC Cobra incorporating relevant advanced technology. “Every year approximately 1,500 copies of the cars AC built in the 1960s are sold in America,” says Alan Lubinsky. “Why would anyone buy a replica when they can own an authentic AC roadster that is lighter and better and has been engineered and built to such demanding standards?” Weighing only about 1,025 kg, the lightweight AC MkVI GTS sports car can hit 100 kph in approximately 3.3 seconds. “The AC MkVI is wickedly addictive,” says Gullwing’s Juergen Mohr.
“One drive in this scorchingly fast sports car creates an adrenalin rush that will last a lifetime. The AC MkVI offers heritage, performance and timeless styling that stirs the soul.” The AC chassis has been at the heart of some of the most legendary cars in history. Texan Carroll Shelby imported a number of rolling chassis from AC in the 1960s to build the legendary “Cobras” that dominated international sports car racing. The Shelby American team inserted a performance tuned Ford V8 and gearbox into a chassis and body supplied by AC for the North American market. Since then AC has manufactured a car that has been imitated by numerous companies.
AC expects to appoint a distribution network in Europe in the coming months to sell and maintain the AC MkVI.

C2 Suzuki Two Seat Sports Car Concept

C2 Suzuki Two Seat Sports Car Concept

The Suzuki C2 was a promising and well proportioned two seat sports car concept first revealed at the 1997 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Mounted up front was an complex 1.6 litre V8 engine which produced 250 horsepower @ 4,000 rpm and 283 Nm or torque @ 4,000 rpm. Power was sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission.
Considering the C2 was designed back in 1997 the styling has stayed remarkably fresh. Yes the wheels look a little bland, some of the minor details look dated compared to modern cars, and the black colored wheel arch extensions would have to go, but with just a few minor tweeks the C2 could easily match some contemporary sports cars for style. The basic shape and clean lines of the grille coupled with the triple beam headlights are particularly successful, as is the rear section with its twin exhausts neatly tucked into the rear bumper.
The roof system of the Suzuki C2 offered flexibility due to its clever design. It could be either a fully enclosed vehicle, a full convertible, or by removing the centre panel it was a targa top.

GSX-R4 Suzuki Concept Car designed purely for open air fun

GSX-R4 Suzuki Concept Car

The GSX-R4 is powered by a 1.3 litre 4 cylinder engine as used in the Suzuki Hayabusa designed purely for open air fun. 175 bhp is run through a six-speed sequential gearbox and with a weight of just 640 kgs the GSX-R4 has a power to weight ratio to rival the Porsche 911 Turbo.
To keep the weight down the GSX-R4 uses an aluminium chassis and minimal bodywork.
The use of motorbike derived technology is advertised by the use of visible horizontal shock absorbers and functional, machined details.
Occupants of the GSX-R4 are protected from the elements by two small bubble windscreens acting as wind deflectors.
The interior is fitted with with two lightweight bucket seats providing plenty of lateral support for fast corners. Storage space is offered behind the seats for helmets.
Unfortunately the GSX-R4 was only displayed as a model in 2001, however renewed interest late in 2005 means Suzuki has not forgotten the concept.

Raptor Zagato V12 Concept Car

The Zagato Raptor was powered by a Lamborghini supercar V12 engine concept first displayed at the 1996 Geneva Motor Show.
In designing the Raptor, Zagato used the computer aided design (CAD) which for 1996 was quite revolutionary. This allowed Zagato to develop the prototype in just four months without having to build a clay scale model.

The Zagato Raptor was based around a tubular box-section chassis, powered by a Lamborghini V12 driving all four wheels, and was a fully functioning prototype. Access to the interior was though an upward-lifting windscreen, roof section and doors (see the Saab Aero-X concept for a similar entry mechanism).
Originally it was hoped that there would be a limited production run of around 50 Zagato Raptor's but this never proved to be the case despite a positive reaction from the public. Instead Lamborghini decided to restyle the Diablo before moving on to the next supercar, the Murcielago.

Matiz Creative Daewoo Concept Car

Matiz Creative Daewoo

GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GM Daewoo) launched its all-new global mini-car, the GM Daewoo Matiz Creative. The new mini will go on sale on September 1st, 2009.

With a revolutionary design, advanced technology, segment-leading features and benchmark safety, the GM Daewoo Matiz Creative offers much more than a mini.
The GM Daewoo Matiz Creative is a car that is ideal for those with an urban lifestyle. With the styling of a sporty hatchback, it showcases the new direction of GM Daewoo design and a new trend in the design of mini-cars.
The GM Daewoo Matiz Creative's roomy proportions and dynamic styling are courtesy of its segment-leading length of 3,595 mm, height of 1,520 mm, wheelbase of 2,375 mm, and width of 1,595 mm combined with its "body-in/wheels-out" stance. Dramatically sized headlamps that literally stretch from the front fascia to the back of the hood, with clear polycarbonate lenses and chrome-coated bezels, resemble diamonds, adding an upscale appearance and glamour.
A window line that is slanted dynamically upward, an arching roofline and sharp sidelines bring a sporty yet edgy look, a rarity in the segment. Secret vertical rear door handles located in the C-pillar are another unusual feature. They give the GM Daewoo Matiz Creative a unique, sporty three-door coupe appearance without sacrificing five-door utility.
A first-in-segment offering of an integrated rear spoiler as standard equipment essentially extends the rear roofline, for enhanced aerodynamic performance and provides a stable stance in high-speed driving as well as increased fuel efficiency. Round taillamps with clear polycarbonate lenses add to the GM Daewoo Matiz Creative's strong rear impression.
A chrome-coated radiator grille and fog lamps, outside mirrors with two-tone color, and a refined-looking roof rack are other design cues that transport the GM Daewoo Matiz Creative's styling beyond that of a mini.
GM Daewoo Matiz Creative buyers have a larger palette of exterior colors from which to choose. They may select one of the three sophisticated colors of silver, white or black or go for one of the more traditional mini colors of red, blue, green, brown, orange or ice blue.
Newly developed for the next-generation global mini at GM Daewoo, the S-TEC II engine - a 4-cylinder, 16-valve DOHC engine with a displacement of 1,000 cc - delivers great performance and fuel economy.
The S-TEC II engine includes a series of advanced features that enhance performance. The first-in-segment application of the PDA (Port De-Activation) system ensures high exhaust gas recirculation, resulting in combustion stability at low speeds and optimal performance at high speeds together with improved fuel efficiency. In addition, the PDA system contributes to a reduction in emissions, making the GM Daewoo Matiz Creative a truly eco-friendly vehicle that meets the stringent KULEV (Korea Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle) standard.
Another first-in-segment application is an automatic temperature controller inside the engine, which helps improve fuel efficiency by reducing unnecessary heat loss. A dome-type long-skirt cylinder block narrows the space between intake valves while the application of four resonators reduces engine noise.
Mated with the efficient S-TEC-II engine is a 4-speed automatic transmission tuned to GM's global standards that provides enhanced shifts for an outstanding ride.

Skydeck 2009 Honda Concept Car

Skydeck 2009 Honda Concept Car

The 2009 Tokyo Motor Show will mark the debut of the Honda Skydeck Concept, an innovative 6-seater hybrid MPV. This is still a design study, but is a great example of how Honda's IMA technology can be placed in a range of different cars for different needs. To give the Honda Skydeck Concept the practicality of a conventional MPV, many of the hybrid system components - including the high power battery - are housed in the car's centre tunnel (rather than behind the rear seats or under the floor, as with previous production hybrids). This allows for greater cabin space, and the room for three rows of two seats. It also gives a lower centre of gravity.

Kiyora SKY Mazda Concept Car

Mazda Kiyora SKY Concept Car

Mazda’s theme for the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show is “The Mazda SKY concept – Providing driving pleasure and environmental and safety features for all customers!” Under the headings of “Today,” “Tomorrow” and “The Future,” Mazda will display advanced technologies designed to improve the average fuel economy of Mazda vehicles sold globally by 30 percent before 2015 compared to 2008 levels. This is one of the goals of Mazda’s long-term vision for technology development, Sustainable Zoom-Zoom.
In line with this plan, Mazda is focused on making cars that achieve harmony between Mazda's hallmark driving pleasure and environmental and safety performance. Mazda Kiyora demonstrates how Mazda will achieve a 30 percent improvement in fuel economy in the near future and introduce new vehicles that are exciting to look at and drive. Featuring next-generation environmental technologies, Kiyora was envisaged as a fun and cool concept for young European urbanites, and one that only Mazda could produce.
Mazda Kiyora gives an indication where Mazda could go with a small, eco-friendly city car in the near future. It is highly fuel efficient, with a very small CO 2 footprint, delivering Zoom-Zoom driving fun and high levels of safety. The car achieves this by taking Mazda's acclaimed lightweight strategy to a new level by employing an extremely rigid and lightweight carbon-fibre body structure beneath a small, aerodynamic outer skin and a spirited, small-displacement 1.3-liter direct-injection engine. Mazda Kiyora also features Mazda's unique Smart Idle Stop System (SISS) and a newly developed six- speed automatic transmission with direct feel and fuel efficiency similar to that of a manual. With these technologies, the Mazda Kiyora concept would produce CO 2 emission of under 90g/km.
Mazda Kiyora is a redefinition of the small coupe and is dedicated to embody the same fun-to-drive nature as every other Mazda vehicle, combined with innovative ideas that minimize its impact on the environment. This concept is the translation of Mazda's Sustainable Zoom-Zoom philosophy into a lifestyle vehicle for progressive urbanites.
The idea for this car was born from research that identified market opportunities to address future unmet customer needs with innovative concepts and ideas. The very first step taken by Mazda Motor Europe's Advanced Product Strategy (APS) team was an in-depth analysis of the small city car segment in Europe. Having defined several potential customer profiles in this segment, the team focussed on the urban customer with a post-modern lifestyle.

Mazda Kiyora SKY Concept Car

APS found that exterior styling, compact size, manoeuvrability and flexibility were just as important to these young people as high fuel efficiency. European urbanites, then, will continue to commute and use their cars in the city of the future; but they will expect them to use less fuel and produce fewer toxic emissions, while still being fun to drive, easy to park and use. To achieve this, the vehicle must be lightweight and small. Kiyora is even smaller than the new Mazda 2. Reducing vehicle weight is a key concept that is crucial to achieve the goals set out in the Sustainable Zoom-Zoom plan. Kiyora takes Mazda's 'gram strategy' — that has been used previously to produce new vehicles, all of them lighter and more fuel eficient than their predecessors — to the next level. It should also be flexible, a kind of 'urban HUB' that would allow you to go to university during the day, go shopping in the early evening, and take three friends clubbing at night before driving home, thanks to its lexible interior that can be used as a two-seater with boot, or as a 2+2 seating arrangement. The car should have a next-generation cockpit and be fun to use on a daily basis. And it should be safe and environmentally friendly.
Zoom-Zoom Experience and Environmental Performance Mazda Kiyora supports the active lifestyles of young people with its agility, cleanliness, and excellent economic performance. Mazda's next-generation 1.3-litre DISI petrol engine is an evolution of technologies used for the 2.3-liter DISI petrol engine that currently powers Mazda's sports crossover SUV, the Mazda CX-7. Improved direct- injection technology and newly designed combustion chambers enable more precise ignition control. The engine's efficiency is increased by a combination of advanced dual sequential-valvetiming (S-VT), variable-valve timing and lift mechanism, and optimal valve control. The engine is spirited as well as clean and efficient and, in combination with a compact and lightweight six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control, it would make Mazda Kiyora powerful and cultivated, even at low engine speeds. In stop and go urban traffic conditions, Mazda's newly developed Smart Idle Stop System (SISS) would save fuel by automatically shutting down the engine when the vehicle is stationary, and achieves a quick and quiet restart for stress free driving. The system injects a small amount of fuel directly into the engine's cylinders and ignites it to generate downward piston force which, with the aid of an electric motor, rapidly returns the engine to idle speed. Emissions would be among the lowest thanks to a new catalyst that more effectively removes harmful exhaust materials by employing single-nanotechnology to control catalyst particles that are smaller even than those controlled by conventional nanotechnology. Combined with reduced weight and improved aerodynamics, these insightful technologies would result in CO 2 emissions of 90g/km or less.

2009 Peugeot Delta Hydrogen Fuel Cell Concept Car

2009 Peugeot Delta Hydrogen Fuel Cell Concept Car

Another design concept straight from the Peugeot Design Contest, the Delta is all about drawing inspiration from the beautiful ocean waves and translating them into a concept car. The transparent roof that comes with the extended windshield seems common in the concept designs but the wacky new doors and the aerodynamic simplicity of the design enable it to stand out. Designed by Ben Eden, Peugeot Delta looks like a refreshing breath of fresh air that one would find right next to the waves on the beach.
With rotating seats for easy boarding and interiors that light up your day, the Delta is a little bundle of delight. Powered by two Hydrogen Fuel Cell engines the car travels on the roads of future with zero-emissions. While one engine is placed at the front, the other is placed at the rear to give the vehicle more balance and stability. This also increases efficiency of the car further and adds to the smooth drive. The LCD dashboard along with its removable rear seats allows you to give the Delta your own personal touch.
Driving the Delta would be an ultra-cool experience of comfort and efficiency. While the fuel cell powered engine should be calm and emission-free giving you a great ride, the brilliantly lit up interiors and the state-of-the-art dashboard should make your evening pleasurable. Peugeot Delta would instantly appeal to the young and the imaginative with its sleek and simple design. Though perfect for the great night-out, do not expect great speed or mileage from this machine.
